The Bourgogne experience has been created over thousands of years with its main foundation developing to produce many internationally renowned wines. Originally planted during Roman times, the region’s vines were refined and curated by the monks, most importantly of Chateau du Clos de Vougeot, and the dukes of Bourgogne for hundreds of years. The Burgundy région continuously evolved following the French Revolution and had hundreds of books written by vignerons, négociants, and scholars about its history, trials and tribulations, and it’s immense impact on wine and food in France.
As part of LA FOLIE’s commitment to preserving it’s history, and that of the Clos de Vougeot and the Burgundy region, we have amassed the largest private collection of books and literature on Burgundy wine and food. This site contains synopsis’s of over 75 of the most fascinating works from these important pieces of Burgundy history.
Today, we help to preserve this important knowledge of Bourgogne by donating this impressive collection to the historical division of the regions most important library. The unique stories of Bourgogne and it’s development as a key wine reference, created by the efforts of those men and women who work the vines and make the wine, remains available for all future generations both online and in print.
